This is a fitting topic as we enter the chapter before the final.

It’s a subject we don’t like to speak on – death. We’re familiar with life and all its phases – enjoyment, joys, pain, trials and troubles. Even as practising Muslims, death still scares us. It’s largely unknown, and we make dua that Allah takes us when He’s most pleased with us.

We all know what kind of life we want once we’ve tasted the sweetness of faith, and by extension, we know what kind of death we hope for. Life after death? Everyone wants a grand one!

How prepared are we?

Sister Sadaf says that the conscious believer should spend their days thinking of life after death. Death is fearful and scary, but if we truly believe that there is good for the one who does good, we will consistently do good and have positive baggage with us as we move in this transient moment. You are packing up for a journey, nimbly, but everything you take must be to your benefit. That’s how the journey of a Muslim should be in this world.

Be wise:

  • – For those you leave behind – store a good provision, not just material wealth, but also raise good offspring, leaving the goodness of yourself and your deeds with the people.
  • – Then prepare for your journey ahead with good deeds. Heavy ones.
  • – We should also make sure that after we’re gone, we are still reaping the rewards of being in this transient form, and she lists a couple of things (These are not new to many of us. How’s your prep going since knowing though?)
  • Here we go:-
  • – Invest in charitable projects now. Build a mosque, plant trees, dig wells etc. Put your money in things that will count for you after you’re gone.
  • Spread beneficial knowledge. We have the media now, and instead of sending jokes and skits of no benefit to you, send something good. Just as the internet never forgets, your records will never be forgotten. Create records that will be of goodness as you go in this life. Share beneficial knowledge, start a blog, marry a good man, have pious children, let Islam be the bane of your home so that you will leave pious children who would make dua for you and who also will have children who will make dua so there is a whole generation after you.
  • Try not to leave any debts unpaid. Pay your debts, do not leave them for your family members. And this is not just money but also rights on Zakat and even hajj that you owe Your Rabb, so your family is not left to pay these.Doing these insha Allah, will keep you willing and ready to meet Your Lord.
