Forgiving someone who hurt you is not easy. Sometimes the wound sits deep… so deep that even saying the person’s name feels heavy.
Every minute, Allah invites you to release what is weighing down your heart…because a heart filled with grudges can’t fully taste the sweetness of worship.
Allah tells us:
“Let them pardon and overlook. Do you not love that Allah should forgive you?” Qur’an 24:22
Forgiveness is not about pretending the pain never happened. It’s about choosing peace over poison… and choosing Allah over ego.
Forgiveness is not weakness
Many people think forgiving means losing. But the Prophet ﷺ taught the opposite. He said:
“The strong person is not the one who overpowers others, but the one who controls himself when angry.” Bukhārī 6114, Muslim 2609
Strength in Islam is emotional maturity, not ego.
Forgiveness is the victory of the heart.
And the closer Ramadan gets, the more valuable this victory becomes.
Forgiveness before Ramadan
Ramadan is the month of:
- – Mercy
- – Softness
- – Spiritual clarity
- – Answered du’a
- – Hearts returning to Allah
But a heart filled with resentment becomes heavy like carrying a load into the month that should otherwise lift you.
Forgiving doesn’t mean the person deserves it.
Forgiving means you deserve peace.
And Allah promises:
Whoever forgives, Allah will forgive them. Whoever lets go, Allah will let mercy descend. Whoever softens their heart, Allah will soften their path.
How to Start Forgiving When It Still Hurts
1. Make du’a for Allah to purify your heart
You don’t have to heal alone. Say: “Ya Allah, remove this hurt from my chest.”
2. Release the story, not the lesson
Forgive the person, but keep the wisdom Allah taught you through the experience.
3. Remember the reward
Every time you forgive, Allah forgives you and His forgiveness is worth more than the satisfaction of holding a grudge.
Forgiveness doesn’t always feel good at first. Sometimes it feels like letting go of the only power you had.
But forgiveness is not about the other person, it is about freeing your heart so you can truly perform sincere Ibaadah and enjoy Allah’s mercy.
Ya Allah, forgive us for every tear shed while choosing forgiveness is a step closer to Your mercy. Accept it from us and replace it with peace.
