The father of faith, Prophet Ibrahim (AS) holds a special place in the history of Islam when we talk about faith in Allah, trust and steadfastness. We draw our family’s experience during our trying times of seeking a child after marriage from the lessons of the life of Prophet Ibrahim (AS).
A Ride of Imaan (Faith)
Like Prophet Ibrahim, I had been waiting a long while for the hope of a new life in my marriage. Four years after we got married, my husband and I had no kids, yet we battled with the uneasy pressure that came with it. Fortunately, our faith was intact, trusting Allah’s plan for us, just like Prophet Ibrahim (AS) whom Allah promised a child and he had faith.
The Surprising Ride Begins
At last, in 2016, I conceived (Maa shaa Allah tabaarak-Allah!) and was set to be a mom with the feeling that my long wait had come to an end. Alas, life took a turn. Soon after learning I was to have a baby; I had a domestic accident causing a fracture on my leg that nearly changed my life and joy. We actually thought the pregnancy was gone as the focus was to save my life. Surprisingly, my pregnancy remained intact all the way and I got healed with the Plaster of Paris (POP) and crutches eventually taken off my leg, Subhan-Allah!
The Gift Arrives
After going through the trials of accident and the long wait, we experienced the wonder of Allah seeing our child come into this world, AlhamduliLlah! We rejoiced our victory but never thought we would experience another trial soon. It’s now about nine long years since we had our first child, and another child has not yet arrived.
But like Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who waited many years for Ismail and later Is’haq, I reserved my faith with the belief that Allah’s plan is still unfolding.
Lessons Learned
On this pathway, I have come to realize how important it is to wait, trust, and have faith in Allah. As the story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) motivates me to trust in Allah’s plan, even when it appears tough or takes more time than expected, I realize that my faith is the foundation that keeps me going.
With my experiences of the highs and lows in life, I have learned to value the many blessings and trust that Allah’s plan is always just on time, even if it’s not what or how I thought it would be. The story of Prophet Ibrahim motivates me to always preserve my hope and trust in Allah’s plan for me and my family.
