The account here gets personal, but rightly so. Sister Sadaaf is a mother, and so chapter 8 is about the creation of humankind.
For her, who had dedicated her life to learning the rules and regulations of her Lord through the Qur’an, obviously when she became pregnant, her studies turned to this miracle of Allah- childbirth. I wonder if our brothers also feel the same way when they are becoming new fathers. It will be interesting to read something in our comment section…hint, hint.
Nowadays, we have so much information about childbirth, the different stages that the foetus goes through from the zygote to how it feeds from the umbilical cord, to when the child is born.
But long before science, we had this information in the Qur’an, and she cites these verses
Surah Mutafifeen
And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.
Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging.
Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators.
A remembrance of our origins.
We are nothing but Nutfah. Fluid. Clay.
A despised fluid from an area that nobody speaks about, covered.Sperm, that is wiped off and thought of as disgusting. This is how we have come about.
How dare you now become wild and arrogant feeling like you’re all that?Think about your creation, and let it be a source of humility.
Do not fall into the trap of baby dresses[HK1] , fancy parties and shoots. This child you’re bringing into this world has been made fair seeming, intelligent and a source of pride only by His Might. Marvel at Your Lord at this miracle. It’s a real grass-to-grace story. Or in this case, we are not even that worthy. Even Iblis thought so. Allah is the One who has given us honour and that should remind us of who we are and our why.
Birth is a good time for you to think about creation. The cycle of life. You were this child. And one day this child will be you. And then both will be no more.
