In chapter 5, Sister Sadaaf shares how she came to the Qur’an. Reading it is a stark reminder that the Qur’an is indeed the doorway to Our Lord.

It is not how people act, nor what people say, it’s what Allah says to you, what He has revealed to us.

That is how we come to Him.

This is going to be short😊.

Reading her story, it strikes me that everyone has that moment of reawakening. Something happens – might not always be a death or loss or trial. At all times, Allah chooses to gift us with eeman. Alhamdullilah.

Some can’t even put a finger on the when.

The moment we look back at the dunya glitter, look sideways at Shaitan and step forward to Allah in hope and fear, after living a life of ‘comfort and contentment’ in what we thought we were doing was right.

We were praying, fasting, giving charity, and being friends with both Muslims and non-Muslims. We were good. Nothing suggested that we were bad people.

And Subhan Allah, we weren’t by His mercy.

But something pushed us to want more, and that push changed us to the conscious strivers we are today.

Sister Sadaaf says something that made me ponder and I will leave that with every reader-think about these 3 things:

  1. 1. Were you comfortable before you found your way back to Allah? Was your storyone of strife or ease?
  2. 2. Second, what was it specifically? I mean, even if you don’t know what it is, can you check back to when things began to really change and maybe why? I need you to feel the gratitude that pushed you to your life now and if you’re falling short, take conscious steps back to Him.
  3. 3. And finally, she says something so beautiful. She says that people for whom Allah has become their best friend need no one else. Even as they lie on their beds, they think to themselves, ‘Somebody is looking down at me who loves me’, and they don’t feel alone. And if you’re such a person, you may, insha Allah, already have it all figured out. You have found Allah in your actions, in your decisions, so no matter what happens, qadarallah. You have found Allah in everything, embedding His commands and wants from us. Yes, you might be struggling, but that struggle is for Him. You might be doing something He dislikes but even in that, you turn to Him. So, my question is, have you reached that point? Are you struggling for that point? That point where you know that Allah is the be-all and the end-all. Truly know.
  4. May Allah make it easy for every one of us.
  5. It would be lovely to read some of our stories of awareness, when our journeys began. Please if you would, share in the comments below.
