What is the Qur’an to us?It’s Allah’s word, a guidetelling us our why on this earth.

And what does one do with a guide? Use it as a standard to live our lives.

Sister Sadaaf lists a few things we can do to help us truly immerse ourselves in Allah’s words bi’ithnillah.

Recite it

Melodiously and with proper tajweed, let the Qur’ansoothe your heart and ease your soul. Not just in our daily salawat but regularly, daily, a couple of pages a day and as much as you can.

Abdullah Ibn Amr Ibn Al-Alas, RadiyallahuAnhunarrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The one who was devoted to the Qur’an will be told on the Day of Resurrection: ‘Recite and ascend (in ranks) as you used to recite when you were in the world. Your rank will be at the last ayah you recite.”‘ [Abu Dawud and At- Tirmidhi].

Bless your mornings and let Your Lord hear His words properly recited. It grants us peace, blessings, and of course, makes us closer to Him.

Understand it

Make a copy of the Tafsir (Ibn Kathir) and Sahih translation your best buddies after the Qur’an. You should also go through them daily, especially if you do not understand the language of the Qur’an.

Memorise it

As reported by Ibn Abbas, Radiyallahu Anhu, the Prophet (ﷺ) said, ‘He who does not memorise any part of the Qur’an is like a ruined house.’[At- Tirmidhi].

You would agree that when something is embedded in your heart, it becomes a part of you. It’s the naseehah and succour that plays back in every aspect of your life. When you stand for salat, face a trial, or your mind is just idle, the words run free in your mind, jumping to your lips and lifting your heart.

We know the rewards for the hafidh and the parents of the hafidh, right? For these reasons and more, whatbetter words should you have in your memory bank than those of Our Rabb?

Listen to it. Attentively

Oh, how our hearts settle when we listen to someone reading the Qur’an beautifully! In salat, especially during the month of Ramadan, praying behind an Imam who recites sublimely. It illuminates the darkest corners and clears our doubts.

Make it something that fills your homes, rooms, cars and office spaces. Don’t just play it, ask family members to recite it so you can listen. And hear your Rabb. Your heart will be enlightened. Now imagine making this a part of your everyday.

Act upon it&Teach it to others

Our Prophet ﷺ was the living Qur’an, as reported by our Mother, Nana Aisha Radiyallahuanha. He exemplified the guidance he was sent with. What kind of teacher would he have been if he hadn’t? It behooves us to do the same—to take the lessons, admonitions, warnings, and glad tidings and live in tandem. As we do so, our lives become embodiments for others to learn from, and we intentionally make time for dawah as well.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” (Bukhari)

And finally,

Enjoin and enjoy the friendships of the family of the Qur’an.

The truth is that you will meet people, who, like you, want to learn and teach the Qur’an. Create beneficial gatherings with these like minds in the mosques and homes on designated days and discuss this great influence in our lives.

The Qur’anmust be a part of your life, so give it its due. Interact with its pages; do not let it sleep on your shelves; gather your family and friends and take the unique opportunity to engage with the word of Allah.  The love that you will gainfor Your Lord, His Messenger and this deen from living this knowledge and the friendships that will be made securing your environment insha Allah, is the way the Qur’an was meant to in our lives.

So, as we prepare for the best days, Ramadan, may we take these guides as acts we can start right away.

May Almighty Allah reward our sister with Al-jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.

Alhamdullilah.
