EOR: Counting Blessings

EOR: Counting Blessings

How often do you do this? Take stock of your lot in life, especially at times when the going is rough and tough?
Times when ease is bliss?
‘Gratitude is the attitude’ are not just words said for their sake and truly I fear to write on this topic, because deep in my soul, I am not grateful enough.

If you’re reading this:
You did not choose to be born but here you are alive, breathing His air with no might or energy from you
Muslim, gifted to you on a platter, not via struggle or experience but He chose you, guided you.
Grateful Ikhwaan?

Parents who made sure you learnt His Deen, can read the Quran, finished the Quran, inbuilt the salat, a base many didn’t have.
You did Ya Akhii. Ya Ukhti
Despite this, we strayed…heavily. Wandered free while they watched with teary eyes but gave in to your freewill and what the world ‘defined’.
You hear the stories of the weak, the sick, the destitute and do not stop and look at your space.
You choose not to eat because you can.
You choose what to wear, in all styles and colors, because you can.
As often as you sway to the dance of the confused ones, He keeps his doors open.
Your Lord finds you. Guides you.
Grateful Ikhwaan?

Your Lord causes trial and discomfort for some
Enlightenment for some
Incompleteness for some
And our restless souls search for contentment, understanding, away from the catcalls and shirk.

And within that confusion, beauty begins to blossom.
Floundering but sure that Islam is our call.
Inherent talent or gifts begin to manifest, and we know this deen is key.
The great memory
The love for kids
The written word
The spoken power
The teacher
The mentor
The scientist
All geared towards a sole purpose.
For Him
Grateful Ya Ikwan?
Have you shown gratitude to Him?
This is not from you.

Today, truly take stock,
Not of the material things you had, have, wished you had or lost.
Look at the things that truly make you, you
Your why
Your what
Your how
Your Who
Your when
And if the answers to these are not ‘Allah’ or leading to Him
Then where is your gratitude?

I envy the one who’s been gifted with the knowledge
That all I have is more than I need

Grant us this Ya Rabbi
Give us peace in this Deen, in this existence
And the company of your beloved in Firdaus
Ya Allah, make us grateful slaves, by Your Grace

Subhanallah
